How to Add Privacy to an Overlooked Garden

November 8, 2024

Do you feel as though your outdoor space is constantly being overlooked? If so then it’s time to do something about that. This guide will tell you what changes you can make to try and combat the issue, so you can look forward to making a change that benefits the whole family.

Maximize the Height of the Fence

One of the first things you need to try and do is take the time to maximize the height of your fence. If you know that your back garden needs a little more privacy then it may be that you maximize the height of your side fence. As a general rule, you can have up to two meters of fencing without having to ask for permission. Adding fencing can also go a long way when it comes to the security of your home. If you want to make a big difference to how secure your home or your garden is then it could be worth looking into tubular fencing, as it looks great and offers your home extra protection.

Shield your Garden

Another thing you need to do is try and shield your garden by investing in a pergola. The best thing about having a pergola is that you can have it higher than the maximum fence height and on top of this, it gives your garden a lot of shade. A pergola can also make your garden look great and in summer, it helps to keep everyone cool. Additional side screening can also be put up if you’d like to make your space even more private.

Summer House

If you don’t feel as though your garden is anywhere near private enough then another thing you can do is try and add a summer house. The best thing about adding a summer house is that you can use it to your advantage when it comes to overlooking gardens. A summer house can be built a lot higher than fencing and on top of this, you can also have additional privacy from the height of the building. As well as this increase in privacy, you can also feel confident knowing that you have options when it comes to the general style of it. This allows you to completely customize it so it meets your needs now, and for years to come.

Low Seating

The last thing you can do to make your garden more private would be for you to try and utilize low seating. Low seating is great as it means you can be closer to the ground which will shield you from people. You will also find that you can add screening plants to the area, which will help you to create a nice and secluded space without putting up a large fence. Things like this can also be used as temporary measures too, if you feel as though you want to get a fence but have to wait for the company to get some availability to fit you in.
