I love a good word game, so I’m pretty excited about sharing Fletter with you.
Fletter is a word game that makes you think fast, but act faster!
Inside the box, you’ll find two packs of cards. One pack is green, the other is blue. There are 50 letter cards and 5 Flettered cards.
The way in which you play the game is to shout out words from letters placed before you, before the other players can. There’s no timer, but you need to think fast and act faster than your opponents to claim your words. The words you claim give you points as each letter is worth a set amount of points.
Fletter has an age guidance of 8+. Our twins are six years old, and although it did take a while for them to get to grips with the idea of the game, they do enjoy playing it with help from mummy and daddy.
There are four rounds in total. The first round starts with three letter words, the second with four letter words, the third with five letter words, and the fourth and final round with six letter words.
In order to gain points, you simply need to create words from those placed on the table. Each letter is worth a set amount of points, and at the end of the round, points are added up with the highest scorer being the winner.
The first round is pretty easy for our girls as they’re required to find three letter words. As each round progresses, it does get more difficult for our girls to think up longer words, but that’s where mummy and daddy come in to help!
To start the game, cards are dealt equally to each player. Every one takes it in turn to reveal their cards one at a time by putting them face up on the table until no-one has any cards left.
The 10 Flettered cards are forfeit cards. The way these work, is that if someone spells a word isn’t an accepted word, they take a Flettered card and lose two points. If the word is right, the player takes those cards and keeps them. The challenger then has to take a Flettered card.
Fletter is a great family game that we’ve all really enjoyed playing. It’s definitely helped our girls increase their vocabulary, and learn new words.
