Creating a relaxing bedroom for a good night’s sleep
In 2021, my husband and I bought our first, and forever, home together. Having rented for many years, I knew exactly what I wanted our home to look like. You see, when you rent for as long as we did, you gain experience and knowledge in what works well, and what definitely doesn’t work.
We’ve lived in many different types of homes with lots of different layouts. From bungalows to flats and maisonettes. All of these homes had very different layouts. For example, one bungalow we lived in was a dorma. This mean there were two bedrooms in the attic. One with an en-suite. The stairs that led up to the bedroom were very steep and were in the very back room. We ended up using that room as a play room for our twin girls. Of course, with a stair gate on the stairs.
Our last rental was a lovely bungalow where two rooms had been made into one. It was a lovely, big room however, the problem with the size of the room meant that we very quickly filled it with clutter! I think that’s what you do sometimes when you’re renting. You just end up filling the space you have. Whether it’s a small flat or bigger bungalow.
Feng Shui
With that being said, when we bought our now, forever home, I knew I wanted no clutter! I read this online piece by Simba about Feng Shui bedroom tips. Some of the tips include:
- Choose earthy and natural tones in your decoration and bedding – providing support and relaxation
- Get ahead with a headboard – it represents added stability and support in your life, especially in relationships
- Pair your ornaments and bedside tables – single figures can reinforce a sense of isolation
- Simple symmetry touches without over sterilising – matching lamps or candles for example
- Invest in better bedding
With all of the above in mind, I think we mastered the design our bedroom. Although, I will just add great UK mattresses make a world of difference in getting a good nights’ sleep! Three of the walls are natural tones with the feature wall being a nice earthy. green. In addition, we have a fabulous headboard and I absolutely love our matching lamps on our bedside tables.
Better Sleep
The last point in that list? Invest in better bedding. That is one of the most important things to me. Simba recently sent me a set of their Performance Bed Linen and it really is true. Better bedding equals better sleep.

Simba’s performance bed linen is 100% cotton. This is a key component of great sleep, because as well as feeling soft and soothing, it also helps regulate your body temperature; cotton is a naturally breathable fabric but Simba has added their Stratos finish on one side to help dissipate excess body heat. Talking of regulating your body temperature, I find that if my feet are cold, the rest of my body is cold. That’s why Simba’s slippers are a great choice to keep your feet warm this winter.

The performance bed linen by Simba reminds of when you’re staying at a luxury hotel, and how, at the end of a busy day, you crawl into your hotel bed and it just feels like heaven! The linen is crisp and soft in one. It really is superb quality. What’s more, I love how it’s just a plain and simple white. Nothing fussy, nothing to busy, just simplicity. It works so well in our bedroom plus it’s lightweight which makes it perfect for all year round.
