Christmas Toy Storage Solutions

December 6, 2013

As Christmas approaches I have been desperately trying to find our girls toys a new home. We have two rather unsightly plastic boxes in the corner of our living room. One is filled, well actually come to think of it, it’s actually overflowing with soft toys! The other is filled with a range of different toys, from plastic fruit to figurines, electronic musical toys to toys cars.

However, as hard as I try to get rid of some of their toys it’s as if by magic the boxes are still full! I don’t know how it happens. I tried selling some online, but for those that I am left with they will be going to the charity shop all in a bid to make room for the abundance of new toys that Christmas will bring.

We don’t have much storage space in our home hence why we have plastic boxes in our living room. I have seen some childrens storage cubes on sale online and I’m starting to think this is the way to go. Lets face it they’ll look better than two boxes shoved in the corner of the room!

In addition to this the toys we have bought our girls for Christmas will take up quite a bit of space. We recently sold the girls playpen to make a bit of extra room and we even rearranged the furniture and yet we don’t appear to have anymore room than before. We’ve bought our girls a play kitchen for Christmas and my dad has bought them a play shop, so both these items will take up a considerable amount of room. It seems I’ll have to have a rethink of how and where to store the girls old toys and new ones for that matter.

On a different note, I have been wondering about when is the right time to change the girls cots into beds. I’ve written about this previously on a number of occasions, but as they get older it’s on my mind more. I’d like to get them some personalised kids furniture this Christmas, but I don’t know if they’re ready for beds yet.

They’ll be two the end of February and I’ve read that you should wait until closer to the age of three before making the transition from cot to bed. I guess when the girls are sleeping a bit better I’ll be more likely to make this change. I’m hoping to tie it in with our house move. We haven’t bought a house yet, but are planning to next year. We’ll just have to wait and see!
