Brilliant Mum Feature Week 71
Hello and welcome to the Brilliant Mum Feature. Once a week I will be featuring one mum in a bid to find out more about them and their lives.
If you’d like to take part in this series, simply fill in this form.

This week our brilliant mum feature is Terri from The Strawberry Fountain.
Terri is a 32 mother of two boys and wife to her childhood sweetheart. They live in a village just outside Chester with their cocker spaniel puppy, Buddy, who loves nothing better than eating socks. Until January this year Terri was a college teacher, but is am now a freelance writer working around the school runs and she couldn’t be happier. In her spare time, Terri enjoys reading and going to clubbercise or meeting friends for cake, hence the need for clubbercise!
Thanks for taking part Terri!

Have you always wanted to be a mum?
I knew from an early age that I wanted children but I always imagined myself with girls, so having to boys was a bit of a shock.
How did you feel when your children were born?
My first son was a wonderful surprise and it took some getting used to the idea that I was pregnant and once he arrived I was very unsure about my ability to be a mum and found myself looking for reassurance from my own mum a lot. He taught me how to be a mum and gave me the confidence i needed to trust myself so when my second baby arrived I wasn’t as nervous. Their birth stories are very different, my first was a long and painful natural birth and the second was a traumatic emergency c section but both resulted in beautiful healthy baby boys and i will be for ever thankful to the midwives for that.

What have been your most rewarding experiences so far as a mum?
Being a mum has been full of rewarding moments from their first smile to being told they love you without being prompted. Both my boys have made me feel proud on so many occasions but I think the most rewarding is when non family members comment on their behaviour or their manners, it’s then that i realise we are doing okay and that they are turning into lovely little gentleman that are polite and caring.
What are some of your funniest moments to have happened to you as a mum?
My boys make me laugh all the time, the eldest is know for is quick wit and one liners, even at nursery he would have everyne laughing to the point that one member of staff said she was going to write a book of “reeceisms” just to remember them all. The tiddler on the other hand is just as funny but his is usually from the facial expressions he pulls. One of the funniest times i remember was when the eldest was 4 and kept asking where daddys hoe was, repeatedly, in front of friends. He insisted daddy had a hoe and he usually played with it at the weekends. We eventually realised, after many a red face, that he meant the garden rake and were amazed to know he even knew about a garden hoe.
Have there been any situations with your children that you have found difficult to cope with?
There have been a few moments that i have found difficult. The two that stand out the most are, when my second baby was born by c section I was off my feet for a while and struggled with guilt about not playing with my toddler enough and worrying he would feel left out, unloved and resent his baby brother. I tried hard to keep things the same but it was a difficult couple of weeks. The second situation that comes to mind is when the youngest was admitted to hospital for breathing difficulties and i felt useless and unable to help him, as we had a toddler at home I once again felt I was letting him down by not being there but knew I needed to stay at the hospital. I think the most difficult situations for me as a parent are when the mum guilt takes over.
What are your dreams and hopes for your children?
I want my children to happy, I want them to be sociable and confident being themselves around other people with no fear of judgement. I want them to live long and healthy lives full of exciting experiences and being surrounded by love. When they are older I want them to experience true love and contentment and have the ability to follow their own hopes and dreams living a life of no regrets.
