Brilliant Mum Feature

This week our brilliant mum feature is Helen who blogs at Blogging Beautifully.

Helen says she is 30 something Practice Nurse with 2 children, Alfie who is nearly 5 and Elarna who is 2. She’s married and has been for nearly 7 years! Other than blogging in the evenings, Helen says her days seem to be consumed with washing, tidying and putting clothes away…..bore! When she’s not being a domestic goddess, she love walks in the countryside, pub trips, family days and American TV!

Thanks for taking part Helen!

Have you always wanted to be a mum?

Yes, I always knew I wanted kids but never really knew when it would happen? Alfie was a bit of a surprise but Elarna was planned. I had a huge amount of mixed feelings when I was pregnant the 1st time, I was so excited but nervous at the same time.

How did you feel when your children were born?

After Alfie it was tough. I had alot going on in my head and I felt I should be happy but I was so overwhelmed and fell into a bit of an anxious state. I was happy but not like I should be. I got myself out of it and was in a much happier place once I’d sorted my head out. With my daughter I was so happy, I dealt with things in a total different manner, I was determined not to fall into the anxious trap again. Sadly, I did when we moved but with lots of support and help from my husband and friends I managed to pick myself up again and get into a good place. I was massively affected by both their births, Alfie’s was particularly traumatic and Elarna’s was quite long and both times I think took a toll on me.

What have been your most rewarding experiences so far as a mum?

Seeing Alfie start school, I was always a bit worried about him going to school but he is flourishing and doing so well. Watching him in his nativity and receiving star of the week and headteacher awards brought a tear to my eye.

What are some of your funniest moments to have happened to you as a mum?

When Alfie was around 2 years old we were doing the food shopping, he spen alot of time lobbing bread buns at random strangers. It was quite amusing, embarrassing yes but funny.

Have there been any situations with your children that you have found difficult to cope with?

I found Alfie very hard to deal with after Elarna was born and we moved, he suffered with a bit of jealousy and he couldn’t seem to control his emotions, he was so cruel to her at times and it was hard to know how to tackle it. He is so lovely to her now though. Elarna is also coming up to that age where she is testing the boundaries and it’s hard to know where to draw the line.

What are your dreams and hopes for your children?

That they are happy of course, I would love for them to follow their hearts and achieve their dreams and I hope to help them with that.
