Advert: Addressing Children’s Early Years of Gut Health

October 23, 2022

Teaching children about healthy food and good nutrition is always a good idea. The younger you start, the easier it is for both you and your child to maintain. This is why addressing your children’s gut health at an early age is important.

Why is your child’s gut health important?

The importance of good gut health in children cannot be underestimated. Gut health is essential in supporting a strong immune system and for overall health and well-being. Gut health also plays a key role in keeping children mentally and physically healthy. Not only can it reduce the risk of illness and disease, it can also reduce allergies. At the end of the day, good gut health starts with eating healthy food.

Knowing your nutrition plays a big part in eating healthy. From prebiotics such as onions, garlic and leeks to vegetables, slow cooked meats, dark chocolate and fermented vegetables. It’s important to add that leading by example is quite often the key to success. If your child sees you eating healthy, they’re more likely to follow suit.

A Good Daily Routine for Maintaining a Good Gut Health

Start with a good high fibre breakfast. This may not sound the most appealing but you can make this fun for your child by using a little creativity. For example, try adding some yogurt to your child’s high fibre cereal. Yogurt contains live and active cultures (good bacteria) that can help reduce the frequency of illness in children. You could also try a kefir drink as an alternative to their usual breakfast drink. Just be sure to do your research as a lot of these drinks aimed at children are just full of sugar.

If your child likes to snack throughout the day, try healthy options such as carrots and hummus or avocado on whole grain tortilla.

The Best Food and Supplements for your Child’s Gut

When it comes to eating healthy, variety is key. As mentioned above, vegetables are always a good choice and we could all probably do with eating more. Meat is another key ingredient. A slow cooked bone broth or a piece of meat slow cooked with the bone still in releases beneficial amino acids from the bone.

To improve gut health of your child, supplements are important too. They can help to promote a strong immune system and boost good bacteria. Always do your own research to ensure you choose the right supplements for your child’s needs.
