Earlier this year my husband and I bought our first home. Having rented for over 15 years we never thought we’d become home owners. Our new home may not be a mansion, but it’s ours. Every room, and that’s really no exaggeration needed to be completely gutted and stripped back to bare so we could start from the beginning.
Luckily my husband is very handy when it comes to DIY and decorating. So much so that we did almost everything ourselves. We only had to call in an electrician and a plasterer. Everything else, we did ourselves. From stripping the walls, fitting the kitchen and knocking down walls! It’s certainly been a lot of fun!
We’ve managed to really make our home feel homely. Being able to chose our own colour themes, paints, curtains and carpets has been a dream come true. For so many years we’ve been at the mercy of landlords who wouldn’t let us put our own touch on things.
Shabby Store
I love being able to chose those little finishing touches. From ornaments to art and more. I’ve teamed up with Shabby, an online furniture brand based in the north of England to showcase some of their amazing products. The theme throughout our home is very much country/neutral/tranquil. We have a country style kitchen with oak worktops and a Belfast sink. Our bedroom is a tranquil shade of green with crisp white sheets and our living room is neutral tones of grey and white.
You may have guessed already from the name, but for those who haven’t, Shabby is all about shabby chic. They combine high quality, timeless, traditional pieces with cutting edge interior trends.
I chose to review two pieces from their website.
Jar and Pampas Bundle
Currently priced at £95.00 (normal price £145.00), this jar and pampas bundle is available in a variety of options. You can chose from silver, grey or white. In addition you can chose the style of jar you want too.
The pampas is also available in white, neutral, tan or brown. I chose the white ginger jar with neutral pampas grass. When we first moved in, I knew I wanted something in this corner of our hallway but I didn’t know what. This jar and pampas bundle is perfect!

It gives our home a really nice finishing touch and it feels so homely. There were 10 single stems of pampas grass. I did buy a cheap florists foam block to go inside the jar. This helped the pampas grass to stand up straight in the middle of the jar instead of all leaning to one side.
The jar also comes with a lid which would also make it a nice ornament should you fancy a change. I absolutely love the jar and pampas bundle. I think it’d be a great addition to any home and I think the price is perfect too. It’s such great value for money. I absolutely love it!
Cambridge Rectangle Shelves
Priced at £82, these Cambridge rectangle shelves are bang on trend right now! Designed to be minimal and unimposing, each shelf is a cuboid shape. I love the contrasting black powder-coated frame against the panel of light wood with subtle graining.
They go perfectly in our home and look great on our living room wall. Again, I was a little clueless as to what to put on the wall but I knew I wanted to add some more photos to our home and these shelves will be great to put our photos on. That’s when I get around to framing them!
The shelves are sturdy and well made so I have no concerns about putting ornaments etc on them.

Final Thoughts
Overall, I am very pleased with both the jar and pampas bundle and the Cambridge rectangle shelves. They’re both fantastic quality and great value too. Delivery from Shabby was quick and I was kept updated about delivery via regular emails.
