AD| bite away® Review: A new way to get relief from insect stings and bites
One of my earliest childhood memories is getting stung by a wasp. Thankfully I’ve only ever been stung once, but it’s something I’m very aware of now that I have children of my own.
That’s why I want to introduce you to bite away®. bite away® is a chemical free, medical device that is used for the symptomatic treatment of itching, pain and swelling caused by both insect bites and stings.
How does it work?
Available online here at Amazon for just £26.99, bite away® is a great alternative to sting remedy creams, patches and lotions. bite away® works by concentrating heat at 51°C on the affected area which creates two mechanisms of action:
- Decrease of itching. Through targeting the pain receptors, an inhibition of the neuronal itch signalling pathway can be achieved, thereby decreasing the itch.
- Immunomodulation. It is believed that through the heat shock of the mast cells, the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators are decreased. Swelling can be reduced as a result.
What this means is that once the pen heats to the right temperature and it’s used on the area of skin affected by the sting or bite, the heat transfer reduces skin itching, pain and swelling within 2 minutes.
What does bite away® treat?
bite away® can be used to treat stings and bites commonly caused by mosquitoes, wasps, bees, hornets, horseflies and other biting insects.
Does it work?
Yes. This study, which measured pain, swelling and itching of insect bites and stings after treatment with bite away® showed the following exciting results:
1. Just 2 minutes after bite away® use there was a notable reduction in pain from the sting / bite. After 10 minutes the pain had almost disappeared.
2. Locally administrated concentrated heat leads to fast and reliable improvement of symptoms.
It’s important to leave a minimum of at least 2 minutes between each application for maximum results and that you do not exceed a maximum of 5 applications per hour on the same skin area.
I gave bite away® a go myself on a recent horsefly bite and it certainly helped to relive the pain. I go trail running quite a bit which means I do unfortunately encounter the occasional insect bite. bite away® is great to pop into my shorts pocket. It’s portable and lightweight and perfect for on the go.
