1. Let’s get down to basics, a decent paper supply is fundamental. Printer paper is a good all-rounder to buy, it is needed for the printer of course but you can also use it for writing letters, jotting down notes and the kids can use it to draw and paint on. Sketch pads, notebooks and craft paper are all very useful too if you want a wide choice of paper at home.

2. Sticky notes or Post It notes come in very handy. Write yourself reminders and stick them on the fridge, use them in your diary for additional notes or line them along your computer screen as prompts.

3. Pens and pencils go missing just when you need them most so purchase a decent stock, so you’ll always be able to find one. If you have children at home, buy a pack of coloured pencils too so they can enjoy making pictures.

4. A stapler is one of those items that will be in your drawer for years if you buy yourself one. They rarely break and they are useful for attaching forms together before you file them away.

5. Paper clips are useful and cost very little so it’s essential to have a box of these in your home stationery supply. You might not use them a lot, but they are difficult to do without when you want to hold pieces of paper together.

6. Sticky tape or Sellotape makes the top ten because it’s needed to wrap up presents, seal envelopes securely and repair ripped paper.

7. A shredder is essential in this day and age. Identity theft and credit card crime is on the rise so it’s advisable to shred all bills and written personal details before you throw them in the bin. Shredders are super affordable these days, and there’s a choice of popular models for sale at.

8. Having a supply of printer ink at home stops any last-minute panics. Printers seem to know the most inconvenient moment to run out of ink, so be prepared and have spares ready and waiting.

9. It’s difficult to draw a perfectly straight line without a ruler so have one in the drawer. They are also great for measuring smaller items. A 30cm length ruler is probably the handiest size to have at home.

10. Finally, glue is a must-have item for the home. Kids get through lots of it when crafting and adults tend to use it for fixing broken items.
