Chasing the sun this Autumn

If you have kids who aren’t in school yet, autumn can be a great time to book a family break. It’s usually better value for money than the summer months, and destinations like Lanzarote are less busy. Here are some of the best beaches and resorts where you can take the kids for safe paddling, rock pool exploring, sand castle building and ice cream devouring! Lanzarote holidays are the perfect end to your summer.

Playa Flamingo

Set in the Playa Blanca region of Lanzarote, Playa Flamingo is one of the most popular beaches for families visiting the Canary Isles. The waves here are small, since the beach is set between two piers, so it’s the perfect place to introduce your child to both sand and sea. They can paddle without feeling overwhelmed by the salty water.
Holiday Village Play Flamingo is an excellent place to stay in the area, boasting air-conditioned apartments, swimming pools and a Splash Park. It’s also set right on the beach, so you can venture down whenever you feel like it.

Caleton Blanco


To the north of the island, Caleton Blanco is best suited to more adventurous travellers. Whether you stay in the area or drive here for a day trip, you and the kids will discover sandy coves and rugged rock formations.


Quieter than many of the more popular resorts, the water is still shallow for paddling at Caleton Blanco, while the rock pools provide hours of fun for little explorers. There are not many facilities here, but the neighbouring fishing village of Orzola has several lovely seafood restaurants and other facilities once you’ve finished your beach excursion.


Costa Teguise

If your kids are already confident around other children, then Costa Teguise is a bustling, family-friendly resort that might suit you. Five beaches are connected together by a promenade here, including Playa del Jablillo and Playa Cucharas. Other activities include a water park plus a soft-play area.

Time for a break from the sun? Ice cream and frozen yogurt lovers can choose from several popular haunts such as Antiu Xixona Helados, which has loads of enticing flavours, and Yogurt Creations on Plaza Pueblo Marinero loc.

Matagorda

On the east side of Lanzarote, Matagorda lies close to Puerto del Carmen. A promenade links this beach to its neighbour, yet they have individual personalities, with Matagorda being the quieter option. Your kids can happily spend some time building sandcastles here, before you all cool down with a drink in the centre of town.

Lanzarote benefits from a mild climate all year round, meaning autumn temperatures still reach a comfortable 23 – 25 degrees Celsius. Over time Twin Mummy and Daddy has gone from strength to strength. I write about our family life, my love for running and our passion for adventure and travel.  

We’ve also started living a more eco-friendly life. As such I also write about our zero waste journey in a bid to encourage others to think about the impact they have on the environment.

I’m a keen runner and in April 2019 I ran the London Marathon for an amazing charity called WellChild. It’s one of my biggest achievements to date. I raised over £2,000 for the charity and learnt so much along the way.
