Visit Devon for a Family Friendly Holiday
With two National Parks, two coastlines and quaint market towns, Devon is the perfect destination for a family holiday. I know this first hand as I’ve been to Devon for a total of three family holidays over the years.
The first was when our twin girls were toddlers. We then returned in 2022 and again this year. Devon has so much to offer families of all ages. From beaches and forest walks, to historic tours and shopping trips. There are so many Devon Holiday Parks to choose from, but I want to introduce you specifically to Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks as I’ve been here twice and highly recommend it.
We stayed at Woolacombe Bay’s ‘Twitchen House’ site in 2022 and returned again this year. Twitchen House Holiday Park offers both camping and caravan holidays. This charming park is hidden away in the trees with lots of woodland walks, one even leads right to the beach!
Things to do
Whether you’re a family with babies, toddlers, pre-teens, teenagers and even extended family, Twitchen House has plenty to entertain all ages. There are pre-bookable activities such as the climbing wall and bungee trampoline. In addition to wildlife and bush craft nature activities such as making bee homes and survival bracelets.
During the day you can relax by the outdoor, heated swimming pool. The entertainment team offer pool activities such as dancing and games throughout the day. There’s also a splash pad and flume slide for little ones.
Accomodation
Twitchen House offers a range of self-catering accommodation however, if you prefer, you can bring your own tent or caravan. In 2022, we chose to camp at Twitchen House. We opted for an electric-pitch, but non-electric pitches are also available.
Our pitch was handily located just a few metres away from the amenities block which is cleaned regularly throughout the day. The amenities block has plenty of showers and toilets. There are also a few hairdryers and even a steam room!
As mentioned above, we returned to Twitchen House this year and opted for a caravan instead of the tent. We chose the Beach Haven: New Wave Diamond caravan.
This caravan is located in the quieter area of the park known as ‘Beach Haven’. The caravan has it’s own private decking area, BBQ and hot tub.
Inside the caravan, it’s modern and includes a fridge-freezer, hob and oven, microwave and dishwasher. The living room has a TV and DVD player, plus the master bedroom also features a TV and en-suite toilet.
Twitchen House Facilities
Twitchen House has lots of activities and things to do throughout the day and night. During the day you’ll have the difficult decision of choosing between the outdoor, heated swimming pool or the indoor heated swimming pool.
The indoor pool features three awesome waterslides. Yes, I tested them myself with my daughters many times, and confirm, they are so much fun! Alongside the main indoor pool is a smaller shallow pool for younger children.
When you’re done swimming, you can head for the on-site cinema to catch up on the latest films or hit the arcades. The arcade has a small bowling alley and plenty of arcade games and machines to entertain all ages.
Heading back outdoors, you can have a family game of mini-golf. This is a free activity so why not challenge each other to get the most points! As mentioned above, there’s also the climbing wall, bungee trampoline plus water walkers.
During our stay, our children went on all three (climbing wall, bungee trampoline and water walkers). We also pre-booked the survival bracelet activity and this was brilliant! So much so that my husband and I wished we’d book ourselves on as well as the kids!
We didn’t miss out though! We took what we learnt at Twitchen House and when we arrived home, we ordered our own supplies to recreate the fun at home by making even more survival bracelets!
Twitchen House also has a park for children of all ages. This is situated alongside the shop and laundrette. The onsite shop sells everyday essentials such as bread and milk, plus souvenir’s and more!
If you fancy a bite to eat. the surf-themed cafe-bar has you sorted. From burgers to pizza and chips, plus there’s a lovely terrace area too.
Nightlife
Come nighttime, the fun continues. From live shows by the amazing entertainment team who will keep your little ones busy with a disco and interactive games, to family shows and the highlight of the evening for us, is the bingo! With cash prizes on offer every night, it’d be rude not to take part! There’s also an age-appropriate bingo for the kids too!
Explore Devon
If you do fancy heading off site, Devon has lots of places to visit for all the family. Of course, we can’t talk about Devon without mentioning the beach! It’s a lovely, clean, sandy beach that you can easily spend the day at. Head down early to secure a car parking space at the nearby car park.
During our visit this year, we also visited The Big Sheep attraction. The Big Sheep has rides for all ages, plenty of animals to feed and cuddle plus a variety of shows and tractor rides.
Final Thoughts
