Top 7 summer holiday activities guaranteed to be a hit with the family
It may only be the start of the year, but before we know it, the summer will be here. With this in mind, we wanted to show you a few activities you could do with the kids whilst enjoying one of your summer getaways!
Whether you’re heading off to the Cornish coast, into the New Forest, or up high into the Peak District, we’ve gathered some activities for you and the kids to enjoy this summer.
Are you ready to find out what you could be doing this summer?
Forest art
If you’re exploring the woods whilst on your break, or you have some woodlands near your home, how about some forest art?
Take a small bag with you and ask the kids to collect leaves and other little finds along their travel that they’d like to create art with, once back home or where you’re staying.
Another way to create forest art is to create forest rubbings. Simply place a piece of paper on a tree trunk, for example, and rub a crayon over the paper, transferring the pattern on the tree to the paper. This is a great way for children to discover the many textures found within a woodland area.
Explore rockpools
If you’re holidaying near a beach, it’s always worth exploring the rockpool area, and discovering the animals who call the rockpools home.
You could even take a small bucket and net with you and net out a small crab or shrimp to help give the kids a closer look at the animals. But please remember to put them back where you found them, and look, but don’t touch them.
Sandcastle competition
If you have a few kids, why not ask them to build the best sandcastle and hold a competition? The winner could get an ice cream of choice.
If you’d rather build the greatest sandcastle together, without competition, this too is a great activity to participate in with your children. It also gives the opportunity to grow your bond further and create memories to cherish.
Explore the nature around you
There’s always nature to be discovered, so why not go for a walk and see how many animals you can spot, try finding the tallest tree around, or see how many different flowers you can find. Creating a game can spur little adventurers on!
Water sports
You don’t need to be holidaying near the sea to try out some water sports activities. Many places around the UK offer water activities on safe lakes and within swimming pools, as well as seaside locations.
Why not ride the waves on a bodyboard or let the kids run wild at an outdoor inflatable water park? The choices are endless.

Pack a bag full of tasty treats, and plenty of sandwiches. Oh, and don’t forget a blanket to sit on! Picnics are a lovely way to sit back and take in wherever you are, and enjoy food as a family either on a day trip or on the living room floor on a rainy day.
