JP’s Story: Part 2: Ultrasound Scan

To read part one click here. April 2014 Today I had an ultrasound at my GP surgery. The procedure was identical to that of an antenatal scan albeit with one crucial difference. There was no baby. Of course there was no baby. We are still trying but nothing is happening and my cycle remains stubbornly erratic. And so an ultrasound was arranged and has now taken place. Alongside this scan, I was offered a pelvic scan. This is not something I was immediately familiar with but I was informed that it was an internal scan and that, as it would… [Read More]

B's Egg Sharing IVF Journey. Part 4

Following on from B’s last post (which can be read here), B continues to share her journey with us.  Waiting, waiting and a little more waiting. Well, I haven’t blogged for a while, we left off with our GP saying they could not do our screening bloods. This would have cost us £500 at the clinic we were at, which we just couldn’t afford with a wedding to pay for. So I looked for other clinics and called to ask if they charged for screening bloods for donors, one of them didn’t, just for the AMH test which would have… [Read More]

Nicola’s IVF Journey. Part 2

Following on from last weeks post, Nicola is back to share with us her IVF Journey. To read part 1, please click here. So after daily updates from my embryologist we managed to make it to a 5 day blastocyst transfer yesterday. Our appointment was at 11am and as those who have been through this know, you need to have a full bladder so I started on the tea and water a couple of hours earlier. On arrival at the clinic my bladder was starting to feel pretty full and by 11.30am when they took me through I was feeling… [Read More]

Our Pregnancy Diary: The Second Trimester (4D Scan Video)

Our 5 month twin bump 15 Weeks Pregnant. Tuesday, 18th October 2011 Mummy and daddy had a midwife appointment today. The midwife took mummy’s blood pressure, asked how I was and signed a lot of forms! The midwife told us that she would see us next when I am 25 weeks pregnant. This means we get to listen to your heartbeats, so we are very excited!  After the midwife appointment we went for a scan. You have both grown so much!! The nurse said that she thinks one of you is a girl but she couldn’t tell us what she… [Read More]

IVF Tests for Men and Women

If you have been trying to conceive for a while but it hasn’t yet happened, you may be wondering what your next step is. It’s highly likely that the thought of IVF has already crossed your mind. The reason I am writing this post, is down to the fact that before my husband and I started IVF, we hadn’t thought about all the tests involved. I really wish someone had written a guide or I had done more research into what was involved. I’m not an expert. I’m just someone who has been through IVF and wants to try to help… [Read More]

The Two Week Wait

The Two Week Wait Thread It felt like we had waited so long to join the two week wait thread on the fertility forum and now we could finally do so! Introducing ourselves and telling everyone our story, I met a lot of couples on the two week wait. The first page of the forum was filled with everyone’s names, followed by their test date and either a happy ‘cheerleader’ smiley or an animated ‘BFN’ (Big Fat Negative) smiley.  It started of pretty good, lots of cheer-leading, shall we say but the further down the list you went, the less cheer-leading there… [Read More]

Egg Collection

Pineapple Juice Before I continue with this post, I should mention that two days before egg collection, I started to drink one small glass of (not from concentrate) pineapple juice a day. Apparently, pineapple juice contains an antioxidant called Selenium which helps to promote a healthy womb lining, which is thought to help aid implantation. Saturday, July 16th 2011. Trigger (HCG) Shot HCG is the pregnancy hormone. The trigger shot helps the follicles to mature and triggers the release of mature eggs from the follicles. The day after the HCG injection is a ‘drug free’ day. This means no injections! No Suprecur,… [Read More]

Baseline Scan and Ovarian Stimulation

Monday, 4th July 2011 Our baseline scan was all set to go. My period eventually showed up, 6 days late! It’s so typical! Every month you pray that she doesn’t arrive, yet she does, on time or even worse, she decides to make an early appearance. When you do want her to show up, she’s late! Anyway, down regulating had been going well. I didn’t seem to have too many side effects. The first week of starting the injections I was a little more tired than usual, and I had a slightly bloated belly. I’m not sure if the bloating… [Read More]
