Review: Funko Snapsies

Have you ever been wandering through the supermarket only for one of your children to start pulling on your top and dragging you towards the toy aisle?!

Yup, we’ve all been there! Well, Funko recently sent us one of their new toys which your children will probably be dragging you towards the next time you’re in a shop!

Funko is launching its first-ever dedicated toy range, Snapsies. They’re great for children who love to play and get creative.

Snapsies are small, round plastic balls or ‘capsules’ that contain a cute collectable animal. The description actually says that it contains ‘two’ collectable animals, but I find this to be misleading. You basically get one head, one torso and two rear ends. The head comes with two different faces, but there is in fact just one collectible. I think this is important to mention because I have twins who were both expecting to have a collectible each so when we discovered that wasn’t the case, it was a tad disappointing.

Back to the plastic ball, after removing the plastic wrapping and popping open the ball, you’ll find a pink plastic bag which contains stickers, instructions and a leaflet showing you the different collectables you can collect. There’s also another plastic bag.

Inside this purple plastic bag is the head and torso, and guess what?! There’s a third plastic bag that contains accessories such as a bow and tutu.

That’s an awful lot of unnecessary plastic. The plastic is also labelled with a 5 inside a triangle. This means that the plastic is polypropylene or PP which is rarely recyclable. I find this so disappointing, especially from a big toy company who should be encouraging children to do all they can to reduce plastic waste.

Ok, environmental rant aside, let’s move onto the toy itself. According to the leaflet we think we have Llamasus. One of the faces has a unicorn horn so it could be unicorn also. I guess children can use their imaginations to decide what it is.

The toy is well made. The accessories, torso, head etc all fit easily. My girls are eight and they could easily add, swap and change whatever accessories they wanted to use. They liked that there were stickers so that they could decorate their toy and they also enjoyed decorating the ball (capsule) as well.

Overall, it’s an enjoyable toy, but it’s short lived. My girls played with it on the day they received it and again the following day, but they haven’t touched it since. Funko Snapsies are available from Smyths for an RRP of £7.99. I’m disappointed about the amount of plastic and think that’s something that needs to be addressed.
