Review: Claude Books by Alex T Smith
My children and I love to read books together. During the summer holidays they took part in and completed the summer reading challenge.
Books are such an important of my life. For as long as I can remember I’ve read books. From Enid Blyton’s Famous Five series to James Patterson’s Alex Cross Detective Series. Books are a big part of my life and that’s something I’m keen to encourage in my children also.
We were recently sent some children’s books to review by the brilliant author and illustrator, Alex T Smith. You may well have heard of him already.
Alex is the creator of the Claude series. You may have spotted his World Book Day Title this year, Claude Best in Show!
The Claude series features a small plump dog called Claude and his sidekick Sir Bobblysock.
The humour in Alex’s books appeal to both adults and children. More recently Claude has become a TV star and this September, he’s coming to ITVBe. Alex worked very closely with Belfast based production company, Sixteen South in the development of the show. Here’s a small clip from the show to give you a taste of it!
The TV adaptation features the voices of Simon Callow, Shane Richie and Jane Horrocks amongst others and it is a wonderful way for children to discover Claude.
To celebrate Claude landing on ITVBe we were sent a selection of books.
All About Keith tells the story of Claude and Sir Bobblysock. They’re happily taking a stroll in sunny Pawhaven when they hear an extremely loud WAIL! A poor little duckling is lost! Can the two friends keep him happy and find his mummy?!
My seven year old twins absolutely loved reading this book and the adventures of Claude and Sir Bobblysock.
In Anyone for Strawberries Claude and Sir Bobblysock are looking forward to a nice breakfast of delicious strawberries. But there are none to be found… Everyone has snapped them up to eat at the Pawhaven Tennis Championship!
Claude has to win the championship to make sure Sir Bobblysock doesn’t miss out on strawberries-for-breakfast day. But can he do it?
Both books are full of beautiful colourful illustrations that really bring the stories to life.
The Ever-So-Summery Sticker Book includes 250 stickers for children to use in the book. That’s sure to keep them busy!
Inside there are activities such as colouring, finding certain items on the pages and of course sticking the stickers in!
The Snazzy Dress-Up Sticker book is also lots of fun for children as they can use the stickers to dress Claude and his friends up! There are also activities inside such as mazes and matching the right hat for the different outfits that Claude wears.
Overall, we think the Claude books are great and we can’t wait to watch Claude in action on our TVs!
