Random Dates to Celebrate in January and February 2020

January 21, 2020

I was gifted a 2020 diary for Christmas and inside it there are lots of random things. From random dates to celebrate to random challenges and more. As such, the random dates to celebrate page gave me some inspiration for this blog post so I thought I’d share with you some random dates to celebrate in January and February 2020!

  • January 25th – National opposite day
  • January 28th – Fun at work day
  • January 31st – Inspire your heart with art day
  • February 3rd – The day the music died day
  • February 7th – Send a card to a friend day
  • February 8th – Kite flying day
  • February 9th – Toothache day
  • February 10th – Umbrella day
  • February 11th – Don’t cry over spilt milk day
  • February 22nd – Be humble day

Now I have to be honest and admit that I’m not entirely sure one would go about celebrating some of these random days. I mean how do you celebrate toothache day, umbrella day or don’t cry over spilt milk day?

However, whilst wondering the same thing about ‘The day the music died day’ I discovered that this in fact an actual day to celebrate and not something someone made up.

The Day the Music Died Day is to remember rock and roll’s biggest tragedy. On February 3, 1959, the music world was shocked when American rock and roll stars Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and JP ‘The Big Bopper’ Richardson were killed in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa, along with pilot Roger Peterson. I certainly found this interesting as I wasn’t aware of such a day to celebrate. Perhaps celebrate is the wrong word and should be replaced with remember?

In addition, ‘Be Humble Day’ on February 22nd intrigued me. While we should always practice humility, the 22nd of February is apparently the day in which we should hone in on that skill. It’s a time to not boast, brag or let ego get in the way. It is a day to focus on others’ accomplishments and pat people on the back for their successes. Sounds like a pretty good idea to me. We could always do with more people supporting one another instead of dragging one another down. What do you think?

Will you be celebrating any of these random dates in January or February? Let me know in the comments below!

There’s a book by George Mahood called Everyday Is A Holiday where he recalls the year he decided to celebrate one of these weird and wonderful “holidays” every day. It’s worth a read.
