When a baby arrives home from the hospital, you are responsible for ensuring safe and comfortable arrangements for your child. As colourful and joyous as you make your child’s nursery, making your little ones as comfy as possible for various reasons can be challenging. Such reasons include:

  • Inadequate bedding
  • Loud noises such as the TV
  • Swaddling
  • Too much light
  • Soiled diapers

Fortunately, these are primarily trivial issues. With some patience and trial and error, you can ensure your baby gets the best and most comfortable sound sleep possible.

Cribs and Bedding

The crib is where your newborn will spend most of their time. Here, they will sleep and watch the world go by for the first 12 months of their life as they grow and learn to use their muscles. Because of this, it is best to make the baby crib as comfortable as possible with cot bed fitted sheets and dimple blankets. You can also install specially designed cot mattresses made from memory foam. You should check the size so a mattress fits snugly, reducing any potentially dangerous gaps between the crib and mattress sides.

Soothing Night Lights

A darker room can help your baby’s circadian rhythm at night, and they aren’t born afraid of the dark as this fear comes later on. Therefore, while a night light won’t help your baby sleep, it can significantly help you change diapers or feed during the night. They are also less intrusive on a newborn’s eyes. This means less distress for a baby in the late hours instead of switching on a ceiling light that might be too bright for their little eyes.

Baby Ear Muffs

Your baby’s eyes aren’t the only things that are susceptible to sensory overload. The ears are also sensitive at such a young age. Too much sound will prevent your baby from sleeping correctly and will disrupt their natural sleep pattern. This is distressing for parents and babies since their natural reaction is to cry. Fortunately, you can try little baby ear muffs especially designed to fit comfortably over a baby’s ears. These will block out disruptive sounds such as the TV, music or traffic when out and about.

Loose Fitting Sleepwear

It’s natural to want to swaddle your baby and make them as secure as possible. Yet, most baby researchers suggest that swaddling might prevent a baby from being comfortable and increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). A tragic condition that claims the lives of thousands of newborns each year. Instead, it is recommended that you dress your baby in loose-fitting clothes such as a vest accompanied with a onesie or a sleep sack unless a room is cold.

High Absorption Diapers

Like the book says, everybody poops, and babies do this a lot. They also pee a lot too. And they don’t care what time it is, so they do these deeds at night as well. However, you may not be available throughout the entire night, and your baby will probably sleep following soiling. Therefore you must fit your baby with the best diapers available to absorb as much liquid as possible. This will make the baby more comfortable and hygienic throughout the night and help prevent baby-related rashes.
