My 2020 Reading List

Reading is one of life’s little pleasures. I find great joy in finding a good book. One that draws me in from the very beginning and leaves me wanting to read more. Just one more chapter I say, and then after I’ve read that chapter, I find myself saying it again, “Just one more chapter”.
My taste in the kind of books I enjoy reading has changed immensely since I was a teenager. I remember one of the very first books I ever bought myself was James Patterson’s Along Came A Spider.
I read it in a matter of days and absolutely loved it. While some chapters shocked me with the brutality of the characters, other chapters fascinated me. Detective Alex Cross, his tragic personal life and how passionate he was about putting bad guys away was enough for me to fall in love with James Patterson’s writing.
When the book was turned into a movie and released in 2001, I couldn’t wait to go and see it. I loved the film, but having read the book first, I was disappointed that some scenes from the book were omitted from the movie.
Now I’m in my thirties, I’ve found myself moving more towards a different genre of books. I went through a big Carole Matthews phase and loved her ‘Million Love Songs’ book and ‘Only the only way is up’. These ‘romcom’ style books opened up another genre that was new to me and I found myself buying more of these types of books.
I recently read ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ by Delia Owens. Whilst this isn’t a romcom, again it’s another wonderful book that I couldn’t put down.
I’m currently reading ‘Normal People’ by Sally Rooney which is a fascinating read. It follows the lives of Connell and Marianne who grew up in the same small town in rural Ireland. Essentially it’s a love story about how a person can change another person’s life – a simple yet profound realisation that unfolds beautifully over the course of the novel.
I’ve almost finished it, so I thought I’d share with you some of the other books that I’m most looking forward to reading in 2020:
