In ten years time…

August 29, 2017

I recently read a post my husband wrote about predicting what our twin girls will be like at specific ages in their lives.

This made me thoughtful about where I think they’ll be, say, in10 years time.

It’s quite a wonderful, yet scary thing to think about, but I was fascinated by the idea!

In ten years time our girls would be 15. They’d be in high school, now that’s a scary thought! They’d probably have already started to take more notice of boys, a terrifying thought!

At the same time they’ll have their whole lives ahead of them.

Although they’re twins, R and M, couldn’t be anymore different if they tried.

They’re the best of friends. They’re really close with one another and this is such a wonderful thing to watch.

R loves to challenge herself.

Quite often I’ll walk into our living room and find her sitting on the floor surrounded by her reading books. A pile to the left of the books she’s already read, and a pile to the right of the books she’s going to read next.

Other days, I’ll find her sat at our dining table writing a story, note or letter to a school friend of family member. Sometimes she’ll sit and draw for hours or work her way through a workbook of letters and numbers.

M, on the other hand, loves to immerse herself in fantasy.

She can usually be found surrounded by dolls, many, many dolls, playing out different scenarios.

She’s very creative and loves to be more hands on in her learning. M would rather learn about letters by playing a letter game on the computer, as oppose to sifting through a work book.

In terms of their work life, I could see R as the type to want to go university and study a subject close to her heart to find her vocation in life.

I think M would be the type to finish school, with good grades, take a year out and go travelling, but I think she’s also like me, and would get home sick, so rather than one long trip, I think she’d take lots of short trips.

Friend wise, I think R would have a close circle of friends, whereas I think M would have a wider circle of friends.

I enjoy watching them playing in the park with other children. R tends to hone in on one kid whereas M will flit between different children.

I’m sure whatever they do in life they will be successful at it, but if I could offer some advice I would say this.

Find a job you love. The majority of your life will be spent working, so you may as well work and study hard to achieve your dream job.

It’s ok to make mistakes. Everyone does and at the time it may feel like the world is going to end, but in time you’ll come to see that everything happens for a reason and that your mistakes will make you stronger.

Find time to be with your family. You only get one family so it’s important to spend time with them. Even when life gets busy, find 10 minutes to have a cuppa or make a phone call.

Boys will come and go, but friends, and sisters, are for life.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to ask for help.

I love you both so much and I’m so proud of you both.
