Finding the perfect work/life balance

This year start of the Easter holidays has been a very different one to last year.

You see last year I was self employed following redundancy the year before. This offered me so much flexibility in terms of working hours. I chose to work two days a week and I was usually always home by 1.30pm at the latest.

The money was pretty good, but it was a dead end job with no prospects. It was always a ‘stop gap job’ until something better came along. 16 months after redundancy that opportunity arose.

I’m now four weeks into my new job and I’m absolutely love it! The only difference being that I now work Monday-Friday, but it’s only three hours a day which is great. During term time I can take the girls to school then go straight to work. I’m home by 1pm which means I have enough time to give the house a quick clean and get tea ready before picking the girls up from school.

During term time this is great! During the holidays it’s definitely something I’m having to learn to deal with! That’s because for the past seven years I’ve always had Wednesday-Sunday all day with them! Don’t get me wrong I’m only at work for three hours a day, but it’s still taking some getting used to during the holidays!

For all of that though, it was definitely the right decision for me to take the job, and I’m so grateful that I was offered it.

As I mentioned above, I’m really enjoying it and that’s something I can say for the first time in my life about a job! I’ve never fully enjoyed a job before, but now I am and it’s great!

I’m sure the summer holidays will be a little strange, but I’m very aware of how lucky I am to have a job that means I can still spend the majority of my time with my children.

We have lots of weekend trips away planned such as camping and glamping and we’re very excited about this!
