Family holidays in Tenerife
For as long as I can remember, family holidays growing up were always something to look forward to. I was very lucky that we would have a holiday abroad every year. That’s something my own children experienced until Covid hit.
At that point, our family holidays changed as we embraced staycations and embarked upon family camping trips. I do remember going camping when I was a child and I absolutely loved them. For a child, the simple pleasure of staying in a tent, wrapped up in a warm sleeping bag is truly an exciting experience.
I’m so glad that my own children have experienced camping. We had so much fun. Just putting the tent up with our girls was fun but of course, we also toasted marshmallows, cooked outdoors and got back to basics with simple family fun such as tennis.
Villas in Tenerife
Now that covid restrictions have eased, my husband and I have been yearning to holiday abroad again. We’ve been on holiday with kids in Spain as we went to Minorca and Majorca. This year we’re considering villas in Tenerife.
We usually opt for an all-inclusive package holiday but we feel a villa would offer us more. For example, a villa would mean we could bring extended family with us such as my sister, her husband and children. I know my children would really enjoy having their cousins with them on holiday to play with. For us as parents, it means we can relax a bit more as the children entertain each other.
The other positive of a villa in Tenerife with extended family is that the cost can be shared. Holidays this year, like everything else, have risen sharply in price so if the cost can be shared, even better!
Things to do in Tenerife
Tenerife is a great family destination. There are so many things to do for all ages.
Aqualand
For little and big kids, Aqualand, Tenerife is an open-air water park complex with huge slides and tube rides. There’s also a kids’ pool and a dolphinarium. So whether you’re an adrenaline seeker and want to experience the Tsunami, a 21 meter high and 180 meter long slide with a vertiginous descent towards a boomerang of 11 metres height or if you’d prefer a themed wave pool, you’ll have a wonderful time.
Dolphin Trip
The coast of Tenerife is one of the best places to watch dolphins and luckily for tourists, there are lots of dolphin tours available. Although you won’t be able to swim with them, you can watch them from the comfort of a boat and take photos.
Snorkelling with Turtles
Although you can’t swim with the dolphins in Tenerife, if animals are your thing, you can snorkel with turtles in the turtle area.
You’ll enjoy a speedboat ride along the coast of Tenerife, snorkel with the turtles in the clear blue water and you may also see rays, fish and other marine life.
Mermaid Experience
For younger guests, a mermaid experience may suit. This experience lets children aged 5 and over dress up as a mermaid and have photos taken as they explore the depths of the sea. You’ll get thorough training to breath, dive and swim like a mermaid.
Beaches
Of course, one of the main attractions for families who choose to holiday abroad is the beach and Tenerife has plenty to chose from. There’s Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje and Peurto de la Cruz to name a few.
