Exciting Ways to Enjoy Rainy Days
Now that the summer holidays are finally here, you can start to plan all of the fun and exciting things you want to do with your little ones to keep them entertained and ensure they have a wonderful summer. Many people like to plan their days in the hope that the weather will be bright and sunny, but unfortunately, this isn’t always the case. To ensure you have plenty to do to keep your little ones entertained, even when the weather isn’t as glorious as you’d like, it’s always beneficial to have a list of rainy day activities to do. Here are a selection of fun ways for you and your children to have a day, whatever the weather!
Arts and Crafts
This is by far one of the most popular rainy-day activities, as it provides you with hours of fun whilst keeping warm and dry inside. Arts and crafts can be carried out in so many fun and exciting ways, such as finger painting, card making and even creating your very own pirate ship or princess castle out of an empty cardboard box! You could also look at helping your children make their own pasta jewellery, paint self-portraits or do some papier mache! The great thing about arts and crafts is not only does it provide you and your children with hours of fun, but it also encourages your little ones to let their imaginations run wild and keep their minds working in a positive way!
Treasure Hunts
If there’s one thing that youngsters love, it’s treasure hunts. There’s just something really exciting about searching high and low for clues that result in getting a prize. Treasure hunts are ideal for making the most of being indoors, especially when your little ones know their way around so they can really get stuck in! There are a number of different ways in which you can set up treasure hunts. From a selection of clues attached to the kitchen door handles and window ledges to guide them towards the prize, or setting up some small treats for them to follow in more of a treasure trail style. This all depends on your child’s age, as you could help them to practice their maths by putting small sums on the clues, or you could even have them identify certain colours or items to lead them to the next clue.
Embrace the Rain
Sometimes putting on those wellies and playing out in the rain can be great fun. The benefit to playing in the rain at home is that you’re never too far from a warm towel to try you off! Take your little ones out into the garden and make the most of the rainy weather! From puddle jumping and splashing, to singing rainy day songs, it’s sometimes really fun to grab your raincoat and get stuck in!
Get Baking
As a child, you want to try and join in with all adult activities. Whether that’s washing the car, hoovering the living room or cooking dinner. Getting your children involved with some baking is a really lovely way to, not only create some delicious treats, but also help them learn and spend some quality time together. From biscuits and cookies, to brownies and fairy cakes, there are so many great recipes available that show you how to help your little one get involved yet stay safe. The great thing about baking is that you can select something that has a short preparation and baking time, so you don’t have to worry about your child switching off and getting bored! Baking is a really good way to make your child feel involved and proud when they see their finished result, not to mention the tasty treats you’ll have to eat at the end!
Movie Day
The cinema is a really fun experience, but it can sometimes become a little expensive. By setting up your very own movie experience at home, you can let your child choose their favourite film to snuggle up and watch. Add some snacks to the mix and you’ve got your very own mini-cinema at home! This is a really nice way to keep your children entertained, without having to worry about spending too much money or going out in the miserably wet weather.
