Congrats On The Baby; Don’t Forget These Must-Haves

July 6, 2020

You’ve welcomed your little bundle of joy into the family. Congratulations! For new parents, getting everything ready for a new baby is a challenge. Most new parents start planning as early as during the first trimester. There is a lot to prepare. The nursery room, for instance, requires both decoration and equipment. Buying all the must-haves for a baby – or babies if you’re having twins or more – is a long-term investment. A lot of parents have a list of all the baby gear they need to buy for the nursery room and the everyday needs of their babies. However, you may have forgotten these items that can make your life a lot easier as a new parent.

Babies have fragile skin

When a baby is born, their immune system isn’t prepared to face the everyday challenges they are exposed to. As a result, babies tend to be sick and develop allergic reactions frequently during the first years of their lives. Wearing nappies 24/7 often leads to unpleasant rashes. While these may look impressive, they are often completely safe and can easily be treated with hypoallergenic lotions and creams such as Grahams Baby Eczema Cream. Another tip to reduce nappy rashes is to move to reusable nappies, which can encourage you to change your baby more often.

New parents need to eatIt’s easy to forget about yourself when you’ve got a baby to look after. New parents are often exhausted and stressed out, so many forget to eat. You want to make sure you fill your kitchen cupboards with non-perishable food that you can prepare in a few minutes to keep yourself energised during the day. Ideally, noodle pots, cereal bars, and tins of soup are going to be helpful during the first few months. You may also want to keep a few snacks in your handbag or your baby bag so that you can also eat on the go.

Is that normal? There’s an app for that

Babies are weird. It doesn’t matter how much you’ve read about babies. They will always do something that will surprise you. Wait, is my baby supposed to do that? Why does my little boy always have a rash after feeding time? How can I get my girl to sleep? Most new parents want to have someone they can call for sanity purposes. That’s precisely what baby apps are for. The Night Feed app, for instance, helps keep track of time and length of each feed and get breastfeeding tips from experienced mummies and midwives. Peanut is a great app to meet other mothers near you and exchange tips.

Things will get messy

Last but not least, there can be no stress-free parenting without wipes. Having a baby is a messy experience. Changing nappies and feeding times can be overwhelming at first. Don’t panic. There’s one thing that will revolutionise your parenting experience, and that is a pack of fresh, hypoallergenic wipes. Never go anywhere or do anything without a pack of wipes.

Having a baby is a transformative experience. Nothing will be the same. You can expect a lot of challenges along the way, but the emotional rollercoaster of parenthood is a positive experience in the end. However, if you’re going to make things easier for yourself, make sure to have these essentials on your list!
