Brilliant Mum Feature: Week 7
Hello and welcome to the Brilliant Mum Feature. Once a week I will be featuring one mum in a bid to find out more about them and their lives.

This week our brilliant mum feature is Beth from A Blonde and a Baby. Beth is in her late 20s and has recently got married (last year)! She met her other half through work and after just one month together they discovered that Beth was pregnant. Beth says, “It was a whirlwind, but the best thing to ever happen to us. We now have a nearly 3yr old daughter, Lily.” Beth works part time, but on family days they love going on days out exploring. Beth has discovered a love of arts & crafts which as a self confessed neat freak surprised her! Lily and Beth love to make crafts for all occasions, but they make sure they stay toddler friendly so Lily does most of it!

Have you always wanted to be a mum?
I’ve always wanted to be a mum. Ever since I was a child and would play with my dolls I knew I wanted to be a mum more than anything. I’m still broody for more kids and we hope to add to our family soon. If I had my way we would have a whole football team!
How did you feel when your children were born?
As I approached my due date people kept telling me to expect to go overdue as it was my first. So when I went in to labour at 38weeks I sort of didn’t believe it until the midwife told me I was in active labour. I hoped for a water birth and we were all set up in the room when my heart rate started going really fast, and my contractions were becoming extremely strong, yet weren’t dilating me quickly. The doctor was called in and it was decided I would have an epidural and a drip to help speed up the labour. I didn’t get my water birth but the only important thing to me was delivering my baby safe and sound. It was so emotional and I felt so connected to my other half, he even cried and he never cries! It was really amazing.
What have been your most rewarding experiences so far as a mum?
Succeeding in breastfeeding has been my most rewarding experience. I really struggled at the start and so nearly gave up but through various bouts of mastitis and cracked nipples we finally sussed it out. Seeing Lily gaining weight and happily guzzling was so rewarding I ended up carrying on for 18months!
What are some of your funniest moments to have happened to you as a mum?
The most recent one which wasn’t funny at the time but is in hindsight was when I was upstairs making the beds and my other half was on the loo. We came in to the lounge to see Lily had drawn in a multitude of colours all over the cream carpet! After the shock and after scrubbing for our lives we asked her why she did it- she said “sorry mummy and daddy, I wanted to make it colourful!”
Have there been any situations with your children that you have found difficult to cope with?
I’ve found the end of terrible twos and start of the threenager really hard at times. Sometimes it seems like everything is a battle- for Lily to eat her breakfast, let me get her dressed, clean her teeth and out the door becomes a major operation. Recently I ended up just sitting on the kitchen floor with my head in my hands. She came up to me and put her chubby arms around me for a hug- can’t beat that to cheer you up and melt your heart.
What are your dreams and hopes for your children?
I hope that Lily achieves a life where she is happy in every aspect. I think that’s what we all hope for. I hope she finds a partner who lifts her up and makes her feel amazing. I hope she finds a career that she loves. I hope she finds hobbies and interests that make her feel fulfilled. I hope she has a family and children of her own one day who bring as much happiness to her life as she does to mine.
