Hello and welcome to the Brilliant Mum Feature. Once a week I will be featuring one mum in a bid to find out more about them and their lives.

If you’d like to take part in this series, simply fill in this form.

Brilliant Mum Feature

This week our brilliant mum feature is Leyla who blogs at Motherhood Diaries. Leyla is 36 years old, and has two boys aged 5 and 6 years old. She’s been her hubby since we they 17 and 18 years old! They got married in 2009 and have moved house every year since 2001, until they settled on their very first owned flat in 2010. They have now moved again to Radlett in 2015 and are planning to settle down there now.

Leyla used to be a lawyer, but gave it all up to have kids and is now a proud owner of an online parenting magazine called Motherhood Diaries, and a budget food blog, Five for a Fiver. Leyla recently got back into law by blogging on employment law topics for an employment consultancy before taking the plunge and get into the full consultancy swing! In her spare time, she loves reading and playing one of her 6 instruments (although 4 of them are now in storage, boo!)

Thanks for taking part Leyla!

Have you always wanted to be a mum?

No! I was a budding lawyer and very career driven. But, when I met my hubby at 17, on the first day of uni, he told me soon after he met me that he wanted my babies. When we got married in 2009, I asked for 2 years to further my career in law, but ended up getting pregnant 6 months after our wedding. Then when my baby was 6 months old, I got pregnant again! Never looked back.

How did you feel when your children were born?

My first birth was very traumatic. I had back labour for 3 days and then a crash caesarean, as my baby’s heart rate kept dipping. However, as I had only been administered the epidural, there was no time to be given the spinal block and I felt the horrible pressure of the c section. My second c section was a lot calmer as it was a planned operation and I had no issues after that. I bawled like a baby as soon as they hit the outside world lol!

What have been your most rewarding experiences so far as a mum?

Watching my two boys having a full conversation about how much they love each other and their mum and dad, as well as a full blown discussion about looking after us when they’re older – at 5 and 6 years old! We taught them right.

What are some of your funniest moments to have happened to you as a mum?

One day, when my youngest was 15 months old and my eldest was 30 months old, I took them to a playgroup where the lift was broken, so I had to climb up 3 flights of stairs with both of them. My eldest is still very clumsy and fell down a few times while my youngest decided to poo all up his back and then at the top of the stairs, he took the nappy off and held the poo in his hands. Cue lots of shocked looks, a crying boy with bumps on his legs, a happy baby holding poo and a very tired and frazzled mum! It’s very funny now that I look back at it, but it wasn’t at the time!

Have there been any situations with your children that you have found difficult to cope with?

I recently lost my third baby at 16 weeks pregnant due to my waters breaking prematurely and my eldest took it very badly because we found out that she was a girl and he had been desperate to look after a baby sister. We have had to deal with a lot of anxiety, stress and anger from a 6 year old, but we are slowly coming out the other end now. This only happened a month ago and I haven’t told anyone online about it yet.

What are your dreams and hopes for your children?

I want my kids to, ultimately, be happy and confident in what they choose to do and I hope that I have the ability to guide and pursue them as much as I can through their chosen paths. My main hope and dream is that they never have to suffer any tremendous pain and heartache in their lives, and if they do, they have the strength to get through it with the love of their parents.
