Brilliant Mum Feature Week 15
Hello and welcome to the Brilliant Mum Feature. Once a week I will be featuring one mum in a bid to find out more about them and their lives.

This week our brilliant mum feature is Fran who blogs at Back with a Bump. Fran is 34 years old and lives in Northampton with her husband and two girls, 13 months and nearly 9. In her day job, Fran is an account manager which means she juggles 3 days a week of work. Fran loves working out, as you’ll guess from her gym selfies! She also loves cooking and creating a nice home.

Have you always wanted to be a mum?
Yes and no. I flitted between wanting kids and not. I was 25 when Ella was born and 4 years and a divorce later I decided I was done. Mr J didn’t have kids of his own and I had a change of heart and so we had Oliver but sadly that wasn’t too last. After some deliberation and me having a heart of stone we went on to have Pops and our little family is complete.
How did you feel when your children were born?
Ella was born full term and so I went home the following day and had the normal sleepless nights, leaking boobs and after pains as well as this sudden love and amazement for this tiny person I’d grown. Both Oliver and Poppy were born premature, Oliver at 25 weeks and nothing can prepare you for the roller coaster of having a preemie. Thankfully Pops held on a little longer and getting to hold her straight away was fantastic after Oliver was whisked straight to intensive care.
What have been your most rewarding experiences so far as a mum?
I think it’s the little things like the first smiles and saying “mumma” for the first time.
What are some of your funniest moments to have happened to you as a mum?
Probably when my eldest aged 6 and I were walking back to the car at Tesco. I put my hand up to thank the lady who stopped to let us cross. I then realised Ella had stuck two fingers up at her because that’s what she’d thought I’d done. I was mortified but in stitches at the same time!!
Have there been any situations with your children that you have found difficult to cope with?
Seeing Oliver so poorly was incredibly hard and we had to make some very tough decisions during his little life. It has made me so much stronger and resilient though.
What are your dreams and hopes for your children?
For them to be happy, independent and financially secure. That sounds dull but having two girls I want them to be able to stand on their own two feet and be bold, not reliant on others and to be sensible with money.
