AD| Top Tips for Helping Your Child with Maths
Maths can seem like an intimidating subject to a child. You may even have your own memories of being frustrated when the solution to a MAths problem just wasn’t clicking. That’s why we’ve teamed with a private primary school in London, to help give you some pointers on helping your child when it comes to Maths.

Don’t Tell Them The Answer
There may be a temptation to seem like the hero during homework time, sweeping in to solve the problem they’re stuck on and saving the day. But if you just do the problem for them, there’s very little chance of them remembering the solution and retaining the knowledge in their minds. You should encourage them down the right path, and help them to come to the answer themselves. Not only will it mean that they’re more like to remember the solution, but feeling as though they got to the answer themselves will improve their confidence across the subject.
Point Out Maths in Everyday Life
Another way to improve your child’s confidence when it comes to Maths is by showing how it works in everyday life. Children may find sums and problem solving quite intimidating, but when they see how little sums and mathematical problems are a part and parcel of everyday existence, Maths won’t seem so scary. If they can see why Maths is useful as well, it will help in their drive to understand the subject by seeing how ingrained it is in their lives.
Chat to Teacher
The person who is going to have the best understanding of your child’s relationship with Maths is their teacher. If you have concerns or questions about your child’s development with Maths, don;t wait till the next Parents-Teacher meeting, call them and arrange one so that you can discuss ideas together over how to improve your child’s relationship with the subject.
