AD| Eau my gosh! Buyagift launches four new ‘scent-sational’ fragrances designed to make the memories of experiences last longer

April 1, 2022

Today 1st April, the UK’s leading gift experience provider Buyagift, launches ‘Buyawhiff’ fragrances designed to make the memories of experiences last longer.

Buyagift are well-known for creating special memories through the experiences they provide, but the experience experts have taken it one step further, creating a gift that truly keeps on giving, by bottling up the smell of the experience to enjoy long after it has taken place.

Working with their experience partner, The Perfume Studio, four new fragrances are being launched to mimic the smells of their popular gift giving categories; afternoon teas, spas, outdoor adventures and driving days, to create a full sensory experience.

Many people have experienced smelling something which has immediately taken them back to a certain place in time or a special memory, this is because smell and memory are closely linked in the brain and being the ultimate memory makers, Buyagift wanted to create truly unique scents that instantly evoke these special memories.

The scent-sational fragrances available in 50 mls include:

Eau de Auto

This fragrance captures the aroma of an exhilarating track day, including smells of burnt rubber, leather, and exhaust aromas. The fragrance contains a mossy blend, which opens to earthy oakmoss and herbals, followed by woody tobacco and leathery notes. It has a warm scent with, smoky and burnt notes of birch bark with traces of wood tar, and styrax resins.

A Scent of Adventure

This fresh and earthy fragrance has woody, green and floral notes and captures the scent of the great outdoors, containing galbanium green notes and aromas of soil and freshly-cut grass. It includes woody notes of sandalwood, resulting in a fresh and leafy scent for a crisp, uplifting aroma reminiscent of days outdoors at adventurous experiences.

Tearoom Aromas

This is a fragrance designed to mimic the sweet smells of tea and sweet cakes, which contains a sweet, delicious, gourmand blend of creamy vanilla and explosions of chocolate to complete the palette. It includes sweet notes of vanilla, cream and fruits infused with a tea accord – an aromatic composition of tea leaves with an herbaceous scent, designed to take you back to a culinary sensation.

A Scent of Spa

Designed to capture the scent of relaxation, this fragrance combines the smells reminiscent of being in a spa environment, with aromatic herbs and aquatic notes, it includes aromas of eucalyptus leaves, aromatherapy oils and chlorine. The fragrance also contains ozonic and gentle floral notes notes for a clean floral fragrance with fruits such as mandarin and bergamot.

The Concept

The concept behind the new fragrance launch is based on neurological science, many studies have found a connection between smells and powerful memories.

Scientists at Harvard University conducted research which shows that smell and memory are closely linked because of the brain’s anatomy. Smells are handled by the olfactory bulb, the structure in the front of the brain that sends information to the other areas of the body’s central command for further processing. Smells take a direct route to the limbic system, including the amygdala and the hippocampus, the regions related to emotion and memory.[1]

Pamela Dalton, PhD, MPH, an experimental psychologist and faculty member at Monell Chemical Senses Center explains, that with important or notable experiences, odour can be strongly associated with the memory to the extent that re-experiencing the odour often revives the emotions or feelings that were initially experienced. [2]

The stronger emotional memory connection with odour than other sensory experiences appear to be due to the privileged access of the central brain structures of the olfactory system to the limbic system structures—such as the amygdala and hippocampus, which are involved in regulating emotion and emotional memories.[3]

Head of Brand at Buyagift, Zara Eck says,

“Buyagift is all about delivering happiness and making memories with loved ones. Our customers often book experiences for special occasions, and we know how important making memories is to them, so we wanted to create something which immediately connects people to that memory and emotion they experienced. The power of scent is remarkable, smell and emotion are stored as one memory and with this in mind we wanted to make people’s experiences last even longer, so we have quite literally bottled up the smell of the experiences to create a full sensory experience package that can be enjoyed for years to come.”
