AD| Capturing Travel & Family Memories
One of my favourite things to do in my spare time is putting together photo books of our family memories. Photos are so important, but to me they feel that extra bit special. Having lost my mum when I was 18, all I have left of her are my memories and very few photos. I think that’s the reason why I take so many photos. It doesn’t matter if it’s a day trip, walk to the park or a family holiday, I’ll always try to capture our family memories.
Quite often people take lots of photos but never end up doing anything with them. Not me! From the moment our girls were born I’ve been collating photo book after photo book. From their special care days to every single birthday and holiday, it’s all carefully captured in a photo book somewhere!
That’s why I wanted to share some of my favourite travel and family memories from over the years. Sometimes it’s hard to remember what life before children was like. However, for my husband and I we have plenty of photo books and canvas prints of our pre-children travels. I like to use Bonusprint to my albums. I find their website super easy so it’s my first port of call when it comes to anything photo related.
One of my favourite memories pre-children was when my husband and I went to Marrakesh. It was such a different kind of holiday to any we’d previously been on. We usually opted for city breaks but Marrakesh was so different.
From a day trip to the Ouzoud Waterfalls where we drank fresh mint tea, ate chicken tagine that had been cooked outdoors and rode a boat made of wooden benches and empty oil drums to shopping in the souks and posing for a photo with a snake around my neck in the Jemaa el-Fnaa (a square and market place in Marrakesh’s medina quarter (old city).
My second favourite holiday after Marrakesh was Rome. My husband and I loved it so much that we went back again the following year. Rome is just such an amazing place. It’s full of culture, history and of course, fantastic food! My favourite memory was sitting alongside the Trevi fountain eating ice cream and just people watching.
Holidays post-children were naturally very different to our pre-children getaways. Our very first family holiday was exactly that! Our twins were 11 months old and there were eight of us! We went to Majorca and had such a great time. Our twins absolutely loved the water. It didn’t matter if it was the hotel pool or the ocean, they loved it! One particular highlight was going to see a dolphin show. Having been to a few when I was a child, I was surprised to learn that my husband had never been to a dolphin show so not only was it my husband’s first dolphin show, it was our twins first dolphin show too.
Over the last few years our holidays have changed. We went on two trips to Disneyland Paris which really were holidays of a lifetime, but nowadays we’re all about the camping holidays!
Camping lets us get back to nature, ditch the technology and enjoy being with one another. One of our favourite camp sites is River Dart. There’s just so much to do for the kids. They love swimming in the lake, playing in the park and just running around having fun outdoors. It’s honestly one of the best holidays! As mentioned above, I do like to capture every memory so I may even consider poster printing after our next camping holiday!
