Acne is a common skin condition that results in recurring pimples. This condition can be frustrating and embarrassing but there are things you can do to ease the symptoms. It’s worth talking to your doctor and finding out if hormonal imbalances are contributing to your acne.

In the meantime, there are some things you can do to treat your skin and reduce inflammation. Take a look at these tips.

Gentle Exfoliation

The aim of exfoliation is to open your pores. Throughout the day, dirt and grime will build up and lead to blocked pores. If your skin is unable to breathe, it can lead to acne.

Exfoliation is also a great way to remove makeup which can also damage the skin if left on overnight. However, it’s important to not over-exfoliate. If your skin is sensitive to acne, too much exfoliation can inflame your skin.

Limit Stress

Stress has a direct effect on your whole body, including your skin. It’s common for acne to be a result of stress, especially in those younger than thirty. Stress isn’t always easy to avoid but there are some things you can do to lower levels of stress.

Taking some time to do things you enjoy will naturally relieve stress. It’s also vital that you get the correct amount of sleep- 7 to 8 hours a night for adults.

Limit Sun Exposure

Exposure to the sun can damage your skin and body. To take care of your body you should limit your time in the sun. It won’t just prematurely age your skin but it can cause multiple skin conditions too. Acne is one of those conditions.

If acne has another root cause, spending too much time in the sun can make it worse. Try and find a shaded area and wear plenty of SPF on your skin. If you have facial acne, you can find SPF in moisturizers and makeup.

Don’t Touch Your Pimples

It’s tempting to touch your face when you have acne. Some people think that popping pimples is a good way to get rid of them. The truth is the exact opposite.

Most pimples are filled with a liquid that can spread across the skin when popped. The liquid is full of bacteria and can cause pimples to spread.

Keep Your Face Clean

Pimples are bound to pop at some point or another so it’s highly important to keep your face clean when you have acne. As soon as any form of bacteria touches your face, it should be cleaned off. Stick to simple cleaning methods with warm water and a soft cloth.
