The London Egg Bank

Britain’s first dedicated egg bank opened earlier this month on September 17th in London. Its aim is to help the growing number of women in this country needing donor eggs to have a baby.  The London Egg Bank will attract a new generation of altruistic women willing to donate their eggs to help another anonymous woman to become a mum. Due to a shortage of egg donors in Britain, many infertile women needing donor eggs have few options other than to travel overseas where the supply is greater. Mary started her IVF journey at a clinic in Woking. After three failed attempts at IVF, Mary decided to use donor eggs. Her… [Read More]

B's Egg Sharing IVF Journey. Part 4

Following on from B’s last post (which can be read here), B continues to share her journey with us.  Waiting, waiting and a little more waiting. Well, I haven’t blogged for a while, we left off with our GP saying they could not do our screening bloods. This would have cost us £500 at the clinic we were at, which we just couldn’t afford with a wedding to pay for. So I looked for other clinics and called to ask if they charged for screening bloods for donors, one of them didn’t, just for the AMH test which would have… [Read More]

Nicola’s IVF Journey. Part 1.

Please welcome Nicola to our blog. Nicola has very kindly agreed to share her IVF Journey with us. This is her first post where Nicola shares her IVF journey so far. Please feel free to share your comments. So, like many others out there I’m on the dreaded (but exciting) journey of IVF. I must admit that before starting on my cycle I went through a whole range of emotions-resentment towards people who fall pregnant naturally, constant disappointment every month when the inevitable period comes, confusion as to why I can’t seem to fall pregnant and a whole host of… [Read More]

B’s Egg Sharing IVF Journey. Part 2. AMH Results.

Following on from last weeks post, B is back to share with us her Egg Sharing IVF Journey. To read her first post, click here. So,  Monday came and I was waiting for the clinic to call me with my results. Being impatient, I decided to call them instead. The line rang through and the receptionist answered and I asked if she could check if my results for my AMH were back yet. She went away to find out, the line went quiet and I was stood there repeating over to myself in my head, “please be good, please be good”.  She came back on… [Read More]

This is her first post, (of many I hope) and this post is about B’s first appointment at the fertility clinic. Please feel free to share your comments and follow B on twitter: @babynowplease Introduction I’ll start off with a little introduction. I’m B. I’m 25 and infertile. I have PCOS and lost my right Fallopian tube due to an ectopic pregnancy in a previous relationship in May 2011. My remaining tube, my left is damaged; it flows but was at one… [Read More]

IVF Tests for Men and Women

If you have been trying to conceive for a while but it hasn’t yet happened, you may be wondering what your next step is. It’s highly likely that the thought of IVF has already crossed your mind. The reason I am writing this post, is down to the fact that before my husband and I started IVF, we hadn’t thought about all the tests involved. I really wish someone had written a guide or I had done more research into what was involved. I’m not an expert. I’m just someone who has been through IVF and wants to try to help… [Read More]

Treatment Planning Appointment

Following my husbands surgical sperm retrieval, we booked our treatment planning appointment for Tuesday the 7th of June 2011. We had a rough idea of what this would involve but we weren’t 100% sure, so I turned to the fertility forum I had found online to ask others who had been through this what to expect.  Would we be given a date to start? Would the injections hurt? I spent a lot of time trawling through the boards on the fertility forum, looking at the ICSI forums and members treatment diaries. I also looked at the ‘Diet during Treatment’ section… [Read More]
