London Marathon Training Update

In just 90 days, I’ll be taking on my biggest challenge ever! The London Marathon!

Having successfully completed two half marathons, a marathon just seemed like the next logical challenge.

I signed up for the London Marathon ballot, but sadly didn’t get a ballot place. However, I was very lucky that in April 2018 I found out that I had been successful in gaining a charity place with WellChild, The National Charity for Sick Children.

With a fundraising target of £1,600 and having to train properly for the marathon, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but what challenge ever is?

At the end of October 2018, just six months after accepting my charity place, I hit my fundraising target! I was over the moon and this meant that I could now focus 100% on my training.

Following a 30 week training plan by Hal Higdon, which I highly recommend, I can safely say that so far my training is going well.

It’s incredibly time consuming, especially now that the training runs are getting longer, but I’m 100% committed to the plan!

Monday is pump class (works the shoulders, back, arms, abs, legs and bum by using a barbell of varying weights).

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are running days.

Friday is barre class which is a mixture of ballet, yoga and pilates.

Saturday is my long run day.

Sunday is my one and only rest day.

Training Stats

As I love looking back at how far I have come I thought I’d share my training stats with you!

My first training run was on October 16th and was 3.1km!

Since then I’ve covered a total distance of 330 kilometres (205 miles). To put that into perspective, that’s the distance between Cardiff and Leeds. My longest run so far is 16.1km (10 miles).

I still have a long way to go, but I’m confident that by following my training plan and eating right etc, I’ll have a great time in London!

  1. I really admire your dedication. You are going about it in a sensible way, I always laugh at the celebs who think they can just show up and run the marathon without serious training. I hope the current weather doesn’t hinder you too much #thatfridaylinky
