London Marathon Training Update

It’s been a while since my last training update so I thought it was about time that I wrote a quick update.

In my last fundraising update, which you can read here, I was excited to be able to tell you that I have now reached my fundraising target of £1,600 for WellChild, the national charity for sick children.

My last actual training update was back in September. You can read it here. In this post I expressed concerns about being injured. I was due to run the Cardiff half marathon in October and although I was pretty sure I’d be able to, I did have some doubts.

Thankfully I did complete it. However I will admit it wasn’t easy as my injury was still plaguing me.

Moving on and I am now injury free (touch wood), so that brings me to today.

I started my training for the London marathon on the 16th October. In that time I have covered a distance of 120.8. kilometres (75 miles) over 28 runs.

Some of my runs have been in glorious sunshine. Others, most recently, have been in windy and wet circumstances. I’m talking about Storm Diana. There’s something pretty hardcore about running in a storm I tell you!

In addition to running, I’ve also been going to pump class once a week and barre class. Pump class is a barbell workout using light to moderate weights with lots of repetition. It’s a total body workout that helps to build strength.

Barre class is a mixture of ballet, pilates and yoga. It’s low impact and again is another great class to help build strength which is exactly what I need to do considering the amount of injury I’ve faced over the last two years.

So that’s my update for now! Keep an eye out for another update coming soon!
