It’s that time of year again where I find myself thinking about how many toys the girls have that they simply don’t play with anymore, and those that have never been played with.
What is it about Christmas looming that gets me into a frenzy?
Well, I’ll tell you!
Toys! Toys! Oh, more toys!
I’ve decided that we need a serious declutter!
We need to simplify our lives, our home and be more selective about toys we gift our children.
Last year, Santa brought our girls lots of Sylvanian Family toys. They’re absolutely lovely, but sadly they’ve never been played with.
I’ve hung onto them in the hope that they’ll get played with, but I’ve now come to realise it’s time for them to go another home where they will be played with.
I spent most of Tuesday last week sorting through our girls bedroom.
Their room is pretty small, as such they don’t ever play in there. We live in a bungalow so all of the girls toys are kept in our living room.
Thankfully, we have a large living room so keeping their toys in this room isn’t a big deal.
The girls have a cabin bed each and I was honestly astounded by how many things I found stored in them!
I have to be honest I was pretty brutal and binned most of it. What I didn’t bin, went to the charity shop and that included a massive tub of soft toys.
In fact the girls have around 10 soft toys left between them!
The space under their beds are now empty. The top of their wardrobe and their bedside cabinets are now clutter free too.
When the girls walked into their bedroom after a day at school, they asked what had happened!
I told them I’d tidied their room. They loved it and to be honest I don’t think they missed a single thing that I binned or took to the charity shop.
Now all I have to do is sort out the big pile of toys in our living room to make room for the new ones that Santa will inevitably bring!
