The childhood of our past

How old are your children? What do they do in their spare time? Our girls are five years old and I’m pleased to say the majority of their time is spent playing games and being creative. I’ve often read that modern parents are too focused on keeping their children busy and worrying about them getting bored, so much so that we don’t allow time to get bored. Of course boredom can be a great thing as it means children can invent new games and come up with their own ways of entertaining themselves. All of this being great for their… [Read More]

Parenting in this day and age is very different to how it used to be. As parents, we often moan that kids spend too much time in front of the TV or on their phones, but there are amazing benefits to enjoy. It’s about finding a balance and taking control. If you’re a parent, and you’re worried about your kids growing up in the age of online learning, social media, and Snapchatting, here are some… [Read More]

Stop blaming technology! Blame the Parents!

Kids playing in woods

I see so many news articles, blog posts, vlogs and social media statuses about how children of today are becoming obsessed with technology. Children are spending more and more time locked away in their bedrooms alone whilst they surf the internet, spend time on social media and chat with their friends online. Family meal times and conversations are in decline as children and their parents would rather sit and stare at their phones whilst eating instead of making conversation about their day or life in general. What’s happening to us? So many parents complain about the amount of time their… [Read More]

What effect is social media having on our children?

Child on iPad

Social media is a big part of our world. It’s a great way for families all over the world to stay in touch with one another, but at what age should children be given access to social media? Just to clarify social media to me are platforms such as You Tube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. I read an article not long ago about children who are addicted to their iPads. Children as young as four were seriously addicted to playing games and watching videos on these devices. Our twins are nearly five years old, and they do play on our phones… [Read More]

Choosing Technology for Your Child this Holiday Season

As the holiday season approaches, you might be thinking about adding some needed electronics for your kids to your holiday shopping list. Some things are simply necessities in today’s technology-based society–and those items that aren’t needed for school, communication, or other purposes also have their place on your child’s must-have list. The good news is, holiday sales and promotions are also the perfect time to purchase those items. Choosing a Tablet For younger children, a tablet is a great way to provide a distraction on road trips, allow them to watch their own shows or videos without sharing with the… [Read More]

How will your children remember their childhood?

Childhood is a funny thing isn’t it. I mean you have no responsibilities, you don’t have to worry about paying bills or what to cook for tea, plus you’ve got your mum and dad to do pretty much everything for you. I often wonder what it’d be like to be a child growing up in today’s world as I believe it’s so very different to the world that I grew up in.   My memories of childhood mainly consist of playing in the garden with my sister, going out with my friends to the park or their houses and asking… [Read More]

Toddlers and Technology

Our girls are three and a half years old. They started nursery a few weeks ago and they’re growing up so quickly. The scary thing is that the world they’re growing up in is so different to the world that I grew up in. My sister and I would spend our spare time outdoors playing with our friends. We’d either go over their house or to the local park, or simply just wander around. At home my sister and I shared one pretty big desktop computer. The internet connection was dial-up so it was a pretty poor connection and you… [Read More]

How Technology Can Benefit Your Children

Kids are captivated by technology. As soon as they see a screen, their eyes light up and they are transfixed. As a parent, you might feel guilty about letting your little ones spend time playing with phones, tablets or games consoles. Of course, too much technology can be bad for tots. Kids also need to spend time playing outside and engaging in other activities. However, you shouldn’t worry about letting your children explore a range of electronic games and apps as part of a varied routine. Youngsters can develop an array of important life skills with the help of this technology…. [Read More]

Do you give your baby gadgets?

When our girls were around 6/7 months old they started to notice our iPhones. At first I saw no harm in allowing our girls to hold our phones and watch a video on it or simply play with it.  I’ve changed my mind now though and have asked people not to give their phones to the girls.  Why? Well because when they see my phone they ‘demand’ it and when I refuse to give it to them they get upset. Another good reason is that if one of them was playing with my phone, you’re guaranteed that a fight would… [Read More]
