A letter to my husband on his birthday…

Dear Nigel,

Today is your birthday and we’ll spend it with one another, as well as all of your children, and of course your mum too.

Whilst our girls are in school, we’ll go out for some lunch and watch you open your presents. Although, to be honest, I have to admit that you’re one of the hardest people to buy for.

Despite the fact that we’ve been together for over 12 years, and married for 5, I still struggle to think of things to buy for you.

That’s not because I don’t know you well though.

It’s because you’re just happy to spend the day with those you love most. Yes, presents are nice, but I know that family means more to you than any gift ever will.

It’s one of the things that I really love about you, and I admire the fact that you’ve instilled this love for your family in all of your children.

I admire the way that you’ve raised them all, but I also admire the relationship that you have with your children and I hope, in fact I know, that our children will also have the same relationship with you when they’re older.

R is so much like you. Her mood swings, like yours, are unpredictable, but she has so much love to give, just like you.

M is definitely a daddy’s girl. I know she has her blanket, shorts and baby doll that she cuddles every night and takes everywhere with her, but it’s obvious to everyone, that you’re her real safety blanket.

As a father, there’s no-one better.

As a son, well, the relationship, you have with your mum is one that I find very funny. I’m not sure whether you’d ever admit it, but you are just like her! So very much like her!

I always look forward to Christmas day, because I know it means you and your mum will have the same conversation with one another that you have every Christmas. You’ll talk about the usual stuff such as the latest news stories etc, but the conversation always comes back around to the royal family! You’ll talk about the queens speech and then you’ll both talk about the royal family which inevitably always ends in a row!

As a husband, you can be moody, short-tempered and distant, but you show your love in ways that mean the world to me.

The odd kiss here and there. When you hug me for no reason and when you’re just plain silly, like that time you got very excited about the view from your hotel room and then sent me this picture!

You really are one in a million and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

So, today on your birthday, I just wanted to say that I love you more than you’ll ever know.

Have a wonderful day. Happy birthday my love x
