Hello and welcome to the Brilliant Mum Feature. Once a week I will be featuring one mum in a bid to find out more about them and their lives.
If you’d like to take part in this series, simply fill in this form.
This week our brilliant mum feature is Jacki who blogs at JackiJellz.
Jacki is thirty five and lives just a few miles from Stratford Upon Avon with her four-year old son and husband. They’ve been married for six years this year. Jacki works part time (mornings) for a law firm managing their social media, which is a job she loves. Jacki also loves music and going to gigs and concerts, as well as watching TV, films and reading. Jacki says luckily, given the nature of her job, she is bit of a social media junkie so can often be found on one platform or another at various times throughout the day or night!
Thanks for taking part Jaki!
Have you always wanted to be a mum?
No. I never envisaged me having any when I was younger. I was never the maternal type. That all changed when I got married and then started to get broody – much to my surprise!
How did you feel when your children were born?
Elated. I never knew it was possible to love something so much that you had known just minutes. We bonded instantly and I realise I am extremely lucky with this as not all Mums are that lucky.
Little Man’s birth, I am told, was a ‘textbook labour’! In fact the midwife said she wished she’d had a student on that night as it’s rare for a birth to go that smoothly! Active labour was 2 hours 6 minutes. I didn’t have time for pain relief as it all happened so fast towards the end. I went from 2cm to 8cm dilated in one hour! My full birth story can be found at here.
What have been your most rewarding experiences so far as a mum?
Just being his Mum! We have an incredible relationship. He’s a proper Mummy’s boy and we really are best buddies. I am so proud to call myself his Mum. He’s the best thing to ever have happened to me!
What are some of your funniest moments to have happened to you as a mum?
We have got to that age now where the Little Man is coming out with some right one liners – these always make me laugh!
Luckily I have never had any embarrassingly funny moments happen – that I can recall!
Have there been any situations with your children that you have found difficult to cope with?
Tantrums in public! I had one occasion where I really did feel utterly broken. Little Man was being particularly awkward and would not listen to a single word either me or his Dad were telling him. He had the biggest tantrum known to man in the middle of a shopping centre. I can remember feeling mortified, judged, felt sorry for all in one go! These are the times you aren’t really prepared for.
What are your dreams and hopes for your children?
Above anything else I want my Little Man to be happy and content with his lot. I’m sure that’s all that most of us want. I want to educate him in the importance of saving money and that he doesn’t have to spend for the sake of spending. And I want him to do what makes him happy and not go about his life doing things just to please every one else.
